The Primal Lord Himself formed the Universe.

The beings and creatures are engrossed in emotional attachment to Maya.

dhoojai bhaae parapa(n)ch laagae ||
In the love of duality, they are attached to the illusory material world.

Awvih jwvih mrih ABwgy ]
aavehi jaavehi marehi abhaagae ||
The unfortunate ones die, and continue to come and go.

sathigur bhaettiai sojhee paae ||
Meeting with the True Guru, understanding is obtained.

parapa(n)ch chookai sach samaae ||1||
Then, the illusion of the material world is shattered, and one merges in Truth. ||1||

jaa kai masathak likhiaa laekh ||
One who has such pre-ordained destiny inscribed upon his forehead

srisatt oupaae aapae sabh vaekhai ||
He created the Universe, and He Himself beholds all.

koe n maettai thaerai laekhai ||
No one can erase Your record, Lord.

sidhh saadhhik jae ko kehai kehaaeae ||
If someone calls himself a Siddha or a seeker,

bharamae bhoolaa aavai jaaeae ||
he is deluded by doubt, and will continue coming and going.

siqguru syvY so jnu bUJY ]
sathigur saevai so jan boojhai ||
That humble being alone understands, who serves the True Guru.

haumY mwry qw dru sUJY ]2]
houmai maarae thaa dhar soojhai ||2||
Conquering his ego, he finds the Lord's Door. ||2||

eaekas thae sabh dhoojaa hooaa ||
From the One Lord, all others were formed.

eyko vrqY Avru n bIAw ]
eaeko varathai avar n beeaa ||
The One Lord is pervading everywhere; there is no other at all.

dUjy qy jy eyko jwxY ]
dhoojae thae jae eaeko jaanai ||
Renouncing duality, one comes to know the One Lord.

gur kai sabadh har dhar neesaanai ||
Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, one knows the Lord's Door, and His Banner.

sathigur bhaettae thaa eaeko paaeae ||
Meeting the True Guru, one finds the One Lord.

vichahu dhoojaa t(h)aak rehaaeae ||3||
Duality is subdued within. ||3||

jis dhaa saahib ddaadtaa hoe ||
One who belongs to the All-powerful Lord and Master

this no maar n saakai koe ||
no one can destroy him.

swihb kI syvku rhY srxweI ]
saahib kee saevak rehai saranaaee ||
The Lord's servant remains under His protection;

Awpy bKsy dy vifAweI ]
aapae bakhasae dhae vaddiaaee ||
The Lord Himself forgives him, and blesses him with glorious greatness.

iqs qy aUpir nwhI koie ]
this thae oopar naahee koe ||
There is none higher than Him.

kauxu frY fru iks kw hoie ]4]
koun ddarai ddar kis kaa hoe ||4||
Why should he be afraid? What should he ever fear? ||4||

guramathee saa(n)th vasai sareer ||
Through the Guru's Teachings, peace and tranquility abide within the body.

sabadh cheenih fir lagai n peer ||
Remember the Word of the Shabad, and you shall never suffer pain.

aavai n jaae naa dhukh paaeae ||
You shall not have to come or go, or suffer in sorrow.

naamae raathae sehaj samaaeae ||
Imbued with the Naam, the Name of the Lord, you shall merge in celestial peace.

naanak guramukh vaekhai hadhoor ||
O Nanak, the Gurmukh beholds Him ever-present, close at hand.

maeraa prabh sadh rehiaa bharapoor ||5||
My God is always fully pervading everywhere. ||5||

ieik syvk ieik Brim Bulwey ]
eik saevak eik bharam bhulaaeae ||
Some are selfless servants, while others wander, deluded by doubt.

Awpy kry hir Awip krwey ]
aapae karae har aap karaaeae ||
The Lord Himself does, and causes everything to be done.

eyko vrqY Avru n koie ]
eaeko varathai avar n koe ||
The One Lord is all-pervading; there is no other at all.

min rosu kIjY jy dUjw hoie ]
man ros keejai jae dhoojaa hoe ||
The mortal might complain, if there were any other.

siqguru syvy krxI swrI ]
sathigur saevae karanee saaree ||
Serve the True Guru; this is the most excellent action.

dir swcY swcy vIcwrI ]6]
dhar saachai saachae veechaaree ||6||
In the Court of the True Lord, you shall be judged true. ||6||

iQqI vwr siB sbid suhwey ]
thhithee vaar sabh sabadh suhaaeae ||
All the lunar days, and the days of the week are beautiful, when one contemplates the Shabad.

siqguru syvy qw Plu pwey ]
sathigur saevae thaa fal paaeae ||
If one serves the True Guru, he obtains the fruits of his rewards.

iQqI vwr siB Awvih jwih ]
thhithee vaar sabh aavehi jaahi ||
The omens and days all come and go.

gur sbdu inhclu sdw sic smwih ]
gur sabadh nihachal sadhaa sach samaahi ||
But the Word of the Guru's Shabad is eternal and unchanging. Through it, one merges in the True Lord.

thhithee vaar thaa jaa sach raathae ||
The days are auspicious, when one is imbued with Truth.

ibnu nwvY siB Brmih kwcy ]7]
bin naavai sabh bharamehi kaachae ||7||
Without the Name, all the false ones wander deluded. ||7||

mnmuK mrih mir ibgqI jwih ]
manamukh marehi mar bigathee jaahi ||
The self-willed manmukhs die, and dead, they fall into the most evil state.

eyku n cyqih dUjY loBwih ]
eaek n chaethehi dhoojai lobhaahi ||
They do not remember the One Lord; they are deluded by duality.

Acyq ipMfI AigAwn AMDwru ]
achaeth pi(n)ddee agiaan a(n)dhhaar ||
The human body is unconscious, ignorant and blind.

ibnu sbdY ikau pwey pwru ]
bin sabadhai kio paaeae paar ||
Without the Word of the Shabad, how can anyone cross over?

Awip aupwey aupwvxhwru ]
aap oupaaeae oupaavanehaar ||
The Creator Himself creates.

Awpy kIqonu gur vIcwru ]8]
aapae keethon gur veechaar ||8||
He Himself contemplates the Guru's Word. ||8||

bhuqy ByK krih ByKDwrI ]
bahuthae bhaekh karehi bhaekhadhhaaree ||
The religious fanatics wear all sorts of religious robes.

Biv Biv Brmih kwcI swrI ]
bhav bhav bharamehi kaachee saaree ||
They roll around and wander around, like the false dice on the board.

AYQY suKu n AwgY hoie ]
aithhai sukh n aagai hoe ||
They find no peace, here or hereafter.

mnmuK muey Apxw jnmu Koie ]
manamukh mueae apanaa janam khoe ||
The self-willed manmukhs waste away their lives, and die.

siqguru syvy Brmu cukwey ]
sathigur saevae bharam chukaaeae ||
Serving the True Guru, doubt is driven away.

ghar hee a(n)dhar sach mehal paaeae ||9||
Deep within the home of the heart, one finds the Mansion of the True Lord's Presence. ||9||

Awpy pUrw kry su hoie ]
aapae pooraa karae s hoe ||
Whatever the Perfect Lord does, that alone happens.

eaehi thhithee vaar dhoojaa dhoe ||
Concern with these omens and days leads only to duality.

siqgur bwJhu AMDu gubwru ]
sathigur baajhahu a(n)dhh gubaar ||
Without the True Guru, there is only pitch darkness.

iQqI vwr syvih mugD gvwr ]
thhithee vaar saevehi mugadhh gavaar ||
Only idiots and fools worry about these omens and days.

nwnk gurmuiK bUJY soJI pwie ]
naanak guramukh boojhai sojhee paae ||
O Nanak, the Gurmukh obtains understanding and realization;

iekqu nwim sdw rihAw smwie ]10]2]
eikath naam sadhaa rehiaa samaae ||10||2||
he remains forever merged in the Name of the One Lord. ||10||2||
